Lee A Surkin, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at VirtuOx. He is triple board-certified in Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Surkin created a new paradigm in cardiovascular disease treatment with a multi-faceted approach to prevention, early detection and aggressive management. With over 24 years of clinical practice, his professional career has evolved from exclusively cardiology to a unique and effective practice model for patient care emphasizing a comprehensive wellness approach by incorporating sleep and cardiovascular medicine.
In 2014, Dr. Surkin established the American Academy of Cardiovascular Sleep Medicine, a not-for-profit academic organization dedicated to an interdisciplinary approach to education, supporting clinical and academic research and furthering public awareness of the strong association between cardiovascular disease and sleep disorders.
Dr. Surkin is co-author of the seminal manuscript; Cardiovascular Disorders in Narcolepsy: Review of associations and determinants and co-author of the soon to be published textbook CPAP Adherence - Factors and Perspectives. Dr. Surkin is an editor of Sleep Review Magazine and has been highlighted in the New York Times for High-Tech Alternatives to High-Cost Care.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.
